The Hot Summer Days Chapter 10

Literally the only thing that happened in this chapter was Kathy’s mom getting upset about Polly Logan who is the artist.  Kathy also talks to Olivia about an orgy but it doesn’t seem to be an actual orgy.  BORING!

The end.

‘I told you Mother was bringing things. I thought we were going to have a real orgy.’
‘We can have our old orgy some other night. They’re having lobster!’

Does this word have another meaning? also I probably would give up an orgy for lobster, too.

Maisy finally managed a titter, but Daisy glared: having spoiled their private fun, their peculiar mother was now sitting very very still, staring off into space as though she saw things were not as funny as she’d thought, as though, really, nothing was funny at all, at all.

Is it just me or did the wiki wee sentence make more sense?

They watched her wet her twitching lips, bend to the book again. ‘Twikky wikky wikky wee, Wikky bikky twikky tee, Spikky bikky bee!’

No shit, this is a sentence from this book.

A parasol printed with violets (obtained at discount from the store’s French Boutique) filtered silky madderish light over Mrs. Albert.

WHY IS THAT DETAIL NECESSARY??

IT’S SEXY MONDAY!

ITS MONDAY NIGHT AND I’M DRUNK SO WHY NOT EDITION!

How have I never done this drunk? Drunk is ideal for this semi-weekly segment IN WHICH I read this really terrible 1960s novel called The Hot Summer Days by Sue Kaufman which is so boring you don’t even know. But, you know I do what I can. I will quote the best quotes and summarize it at the end and you guys will be stoked about it because you’re the best.

I accost my mother when I read a good book. Idek who I’m going to accost when I move ;__;

Well, I definitely texted 5 different people about it only one of which replied. So it didn’t come to accosting strangers but I THOUGHT ABOUT IT.

The Hot Summer Days, Chapter 9

Okay we start with Anne and Polly talking.  I don’t remember who Polly is. They are talking about how great their husbands are.  It’s fascinating. Then Polly, who is apparently an artist, goes back to work on her art and then gets interrupted by Jay and Ray who are absolutely fabulous who are fans of her work.  They own one of her paintings and are straight up stoked to meet her.  They invite her to dinner. Kathy has a phone conversation about her poison ivy with Olivia.  It’s fascinating. Then Caroline gets raped by Frederick and Kwiki, which is the name of their servant I am not kidding ohmygod, walks in on them.  I just…this book is so boring.  Why would someone willingly read this? I guess I am willingly reading it but its FOR YOU GUYS OK.

Frederick looked up with feverish eyes. Giving a groan like a man in pain he took hold of her arms and savagely pulled her down on top of him. When she protested, gasping ‘Olivia…Kwiki,’ he silenced her by biting her lips, ruthlessly determined to bend her to his will.

Okay so now there’s rape? Fuck this book.

Maisy and Daisy were still upstairs, drawn shades, a whirring fan creating an illusion of coolness that kept them napping past their usual time, Mrs. Russell was off somewhere with Mrs. Kleemann.

FANS DO NOT CREATE THE ILLUSION OF COOLNESS!  IF A FAN IS WHIRRING THAT MEANS ITS WORKING! NO ILLUSIONS UNLESS IT IS NOT A FAN.  IS IT NOT A FAN?
